"Sweet Cherry Forest" Open Arts Festival

The 11th Annual "Sweet Cherry Forest" Open Arts Festival is being sponsored by the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad “Year of Theatre” to present its numerous unique premier shows featuring world-famous theatre and movie stars.

"Sweet Cherry Forest" Arts Festival was opened on March 22 with the Moscow premier of "Jewess" in the production of the Mikhailovsky Theatre and would last until May 31. The festival's trademark is the planting of sweet cherry trees. Cherry trees planted by festival participants are already growing in Neskuchny Sad, Gorky Park in the square of the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, at the All-Russia Exhibition Centre (VDNKh) and in Skolkovo, as well as in Saint Petersburg, the Russian Museum's Mikhailovsky Garden, and Sorrento, Italy. This year, in the run-up to Sochi 2014, a Cherry Orchard will be planted in Riviera Park in Sochi.

This year, the Sweet Cherry Forest Open Arts Festival also presents the world premier of "Lost Illusions" at the Bolshoi Theatre; the "Folk Art of the Russian North" exhibition at the GUM; a concert by the Russian National Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Vladimir Spivakov; a Spanish films programme at Khudozhestvenny cinema; the Russian Premi?re of "The Variations of Giacomo" with Ingeborga Dapkunaite and John Malkovich; football competitions between Moscow theatres' football teams; the dedication of a monument to Joseph Brodsky; and the presentation of the Oleg Yankovsky Award.
